Dunkirk Boiler Photos

Hello! I’ve been in my house about 5 years now, and have a Dunkirk oil boiler that was converted to gas. It was manufactured in 2002. It’s been working fine without any issues, but it has never been maintained in the last 5 years and I have no idea if it’s been maintained prior to buying the house.

I called a local HVAC company to come look at it and the guy ran a camera in the exhaust flue. He promptly exclaimed “Holy shit!” and wrote on his report:

“Today we performed very basic inspection using our Milwaukee inspection camera to get into some tight spots on the boiler block itself. This revealed the completely rotted block. Captured and provided these visuals for the homeowner explain that is an excessive amount of rot. We do not recommend continued use of this boiler as it poses issues for a potential leaking and or carbon monoxide ventilation issues.”

I have a carbon monoxide detector in the basement.

These are potato-level photos he took, but does this look as bad as his report?

Shrinking joists no longer on beam

Hello! So the joists on my deck were sitting on the main beam when the deck was built a year ago, but now that the wood has shrunk they’re being held up about 1/4” by the hurricane ties.

Should I do anything about this or just leave it?
