Despite the two countries sharing a border, this is the only Mauritanian plate I spotted in all my trips to Algeria. Additionally, this vehicle was registered in Nouakchott, on the far west coast of Mauritania, and was spotted in the Algerian capital of Algiers, quite some distance away. The only border Algeria shares with Mauritania is dangerous and requires quite a serious off road vehicle, something this Toyota Auris is not equipped to handle.

The Moroccan border with Algeria has been closed for some 30+ years, so this car has likely driven all the way up through Morocco, across to Spain, then a ferry back to Algeria.
