Can someone point me in the right direction? Using borrowed notes / chords

I'm a guitarist working on my first solo album. I've primarily played metal and alternative rock all my life, and so while I'm intimately familiar with the minor / harmonic minor scale, my knowledge of chord progressions is very lacking. I want my album to have more of a fusion / groove feel to it. I've done a fair bit of research on my own, and I've learned the basic progressions (I - IV - V for basic rock, ii - V - I for jazz, etc) but they always sound bland or overly emotional when I try to write progressions like this. So I researched some jazz / fusion artists, but I'm having trouble figuring out what they're doing. For reference, this is the sound and feel I'm after. The tune features some borrowed chords, and Guthrie Govan plays out of key here and there, but every time it happens, it sounds so tasteful and groovy. If someone could just point me to where I can learn the theory that would help me write like this, or if you know of any artists with this sort of sound so I can increase the repertoire I can pull from, it would be very much appreciated!

Does anyone else have a practice routine they follow?

After years of not being able to participate in the hobby, I finally picked up a Timber, crashed the hell out of it learning how to fly RC again, and then picked up this Sportix about a week ago. I’ve been having a blast flying it, and I’ve done something I’ve never done before, I’ve started doing practice routines.

Today I wanted to practice rolls and forward slips. I tookoff, turned into the downwind leg of my landing strip, and did a roll as slowly and precisely as possible. Then I simply turned final and forward slipped all the way down. Repeated that through 3 batteries, had a blast, and got some really good landings in.

Do y’all practice maneuvers and techniques? What does a typical practice run look like? I’m curious to see how other RC pilots sharpen their skills!

Our new cat Bobo practically lives in my lap

I’ve had multiple cats in my life but I have never had a cat that loves sitting in my lap as much as this guy. He’ll tear up literally everything in the house for half an hour, pass out in my lap, and wake up to do it all over again

How do y’all feel when listening to your own music?

I’m about to start working on my first album, and I’m super excited! I’ve put together a few instrumental tracks that I really like, and I want to start working on lyrics. I’m not sure if I want to bring in a vocalist to sing the lyrics though. I feel like it’d feel weird to put on a song and hear myself singing to myself. Does anyone else feel that way about music they’ve already produced?

How do y’all work through hard decisions?

So I’m in a bit of a predicament, but it’s a good one to be in. I’ll be starting my last year of college this fall, and I want to knock off a major accomplishment before I have to go out into the world and start my career. I’m an amateur musician and I’m also pretty athletic. I either want to run my first ultramarathon or release my first album before graduating. I can’t do both. They’d both require a similar time investment but would have vastly different end results, and I’m really torn between the two. So my question is this: when you’re are having trouble making a decision, how do you work through it?
