Don't sleep on the co-op mode, it's my dream co-op open world game! (LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight)
Hi guys, I'm new here. I have to confess I'm not a big fan of Lego games, but I'm a huge Arkham fan. So I couldn't resist and bought the deluxe edition. I finished it and the game is great, it blew way past my expectations. I played on The Dark Knight difficulty which I think is the most balanced. (It's still easier than any Arkham game, but with enough challenge.)
But what really caught me off guard, and what I haven't seen many outlets talk much about, is the split screen co-op mode.
I think it's the best feature this game has to offer, kind of an improvement over the Arkham games. I never realized how good it was until I tried it with my partner.
Doing puzzles together in co-op is fun like your usual Lego game. Stealth is even better. Coordinating timing and strategies together is a genuinely unique experience.
But what really sold me is the open world co-op. The game has a great open world packed with activities, and the co-op implementation is insanely flexible.
We can do almost everything together with almost no restrictions. There are no invisible walls limiting how far apart we can be. I could be at the northern edge of the map while my partner is at the complete opposite end, and the game just allows it. She can open the map and fast travel anywhere without it affecting my character at all. It feels like we each have our own PS5 and she's joining via LAN.
For example, I can be doing an AR combat challenge mini-game while she's wandering around finding collectibles simultaneously. The game doesn't even force the other character to be present when you're racing or entering the Bat-Mite shop. And if she feels like it, she can hop into my AR combat mid-fight and help out.
There are some exceptions, like going into a main mission or the Batcave which force everyone to be together (obviously), but outside of that you can play however you want together. Or not really together, lol. I've never experienced anything quite like it.
The one downside is crashes. UE5 is really struggling with split screen here. It's the most my PS5 has crashed on any game. That said, it's not as bad as it sounds since it mostly happens in the open world where there's almost no progress to lose.
I don't know where to post this when I started writing and just ended up here, so please spare me lol. Hope I'm not offending anyone. I really love the game! Thanks for reading.
