Plum tree

After completely ignoring this plum tree for about 5years, I’ve pruned away the lower branches and removed a bunch of ivy to reveal that the root stock has sent up a whole host of cherry plum, which by now have about the same combined mass as the main European plum.

What’s the best course of action here? Do I cut down all the rootstock? Or do I let it carry on as a tree bush at this point?
