Local high scores and leaderboards

HI team,

Apologies as it feels like I'm spamming the sub lately - truth is, I'm wanting to build an SDVX cabinet for my wife's upcoming 40th birthday (machines are hard to come by and import to here in Australia at the moment, it seems). I love Kshootmania and Unnamed SDVX clone and everyone here has been helpful so thank you for that.

I've seen a number of old threads talking about how create local leaderboards that save based on individual profiles. I know it is skin-reliant with only a couple of skins showing profiles scores at all. ExperimentalGear for instance does how top 5 scores as well as profiles next to it, although I can only seem to have it save the one profile.

My question is - does anyone know of a skin or a work around that allows for local leaderboards to show top scores based on individual users? The only work around I seem to find is separate build files, but that doesn't seem to show multiple users at once.

There was a video that I had found that showed a build of ExperimentalGear (I think) and the user had multiple users showing on the leaderboard, but I can't for the life of me find the video now.

Anyway - any help would be incredible. Thanks again in advance!

ExperimentalGear gone wrong?!

Anyone know what's happening here and how to fix it? Running Unnamed SDVX Clone with ExperimentalGear skin and this is what I get.

Cabinet builds?

Complete long shot but has anyone managed to build an arcade cabinet with the intention of making a Kshootmania-version of SDVX (complete with something like the Faucetwo as a controller)? I'm looking to make one for my wife for her upcoming birthday as she loves the game, but I'm struggling to find anything out in the market that isn't just a standard arcade machine.

So much for the upgrades…

Escalator was closed for upgrades on Platforms 9 and 10. Works then moved to the one on the left hand side.

Guess which escalator is now out of order.

Can we seriously just open up the goddamn underpass and allow people to get off the platforms that way?!

Help me find somewhere from my childhood...

Okay brains trust - this might be a longshot, and forgive me if I lead everyone on a wild goose chase. But I would love some help.

When I was a kid, I lived in Mitchem. My grandparents lived in Monbulk. We would sometimes go out as a family and visit random places, mostly out east and north. Bare in mind, this was the early-to-mid 90s.

There was one place we went to and in my mind I have this image of an absolutely beautiful spot but for the life of me cannot think of where it was, nor have the ability to ask parents/grandparents.

All I remember is:

  • It was somewhere within driving distance (I doubt more than an hour drive if that).
  • There was a LOT of cobble stones. Including the streets.
  • There was a bridge that went over a river. The bridge led to a row of shops, with the shops themselves having a hill/mountain behind them almost directly, as though they were built into the side of a mountain.
  • I want to say there was a row of shops either side of the river? Or at least one side - almost like in Warrandyte (but not there).
  • The backdrop was mountainous - so I'm thinking somewhere maybe near the Dandenong Ranges.
  • There was a very market-y, niche vibe. A lot of people walking around and making it feel very old school.

Granted wherever it actually is there's every chance it has changed considerably now, but thought I would reach out to everyone to see if they have an idea as I would love to go there with my own little family. I have fond memories of just how picturesque it was and I'm sure the impression will be left on my little one as well.

Edit: it’s also not Walhalla - I moved to the Latrobe Valley when I was a bit older, so school excursions cross that off the list. Thanks for the suggestions though!

Best way forward with retro collecting?

Been collecting retro games since they weren't actually considered retro, but like most Millenials, there's so much I either missed out on, or regrettably sold.

I'm going for a full Dreamcast NTSC-J collection which is a lot of fun. But I'm also going through and picking up PS1 and PS2 games, as well as a few pieces for both the NeoGeo Pocket and WonderSwan.

There's zero way I could ever get full sets for these systems (not to mention ever have the time to enjoy them). My question to the brains trust is, how do you go about with your collecting? So far it's been a scattergun approach with just getting bits and pieces that I will enjoy. But I'm interested if people go for specific genres, or specific developers/publishers? Do they go for top games sold/reviewed?
