Legal option against Apple
I purchased a used iPhone 17 pro max with a display changed from unauthorized service. However, I have a warranty until December 2026.
Recently, I had issues with the audio system. And took to official service center. They told that the display is changed externally and therefore display doesn't cover under warranty. However, the display has nothing to do with the audio system, and it will be fixed under warranty.
They took the phone for service and acknowledged it with a job card email, stating about warranty and acceptance that the phone display is changed and audio will be covered under warranty.
After a week, I received an email that my phone was available to pick up. While I went to collect, they gave me the phone stating that the repair is denied due to unauthorized repair done for display. And I was okay with the denial.
When I turned on the phone, the display was flickering, and the display was not even properly fixed.
I asked that I need the phone in the same way I submitted with a working and fully operational. They said that the phone had an unauthorized repair outside, due to which the display was damaged.
I claimed that the technician is aware of the condition before accepting the device for repair, and they could have denied either in the beginning of acceptance or at least before opening the phone.
Now, they are denying accountability and responsibility for the damage done.
I refused to collect the phone. I was connected with Apple care outside UAE, and they are investigating the matter with all the proof, and they are taking more time.
Meanwhile, I submitted a consumer complaint with the authorities attached all the proofs.
They denied providing in writing that they are handing over the phone in this condition. I took the video in the same location and had to collect the phone.
My concern is their denial. Not about money. I can disregard the warranty claim. But they cannot turn their back for the damage they caused.
What are my options, and how can I proceed to hold them accountable.
