My mother and wife were fined on the Vienna U-Bahn despite having valid tickets — can we appeal?
My mother and my wife were fined on the Vienna U-Bahn two days ago. We bought their tickets and validated them at 10:30 a.m.
I briefly left the platform to buy some water. When I returned, they told me that a ticket inspector had approached them and fined each of them €130.
They had their validated tickets with them, but the tickets were inside a backpack. According to them, the inspector did not give them enough time to find and show the tickets. Neither of them speaks German or English, and they were both extremely nervous and unable to properly explain the situation.
I still have the fine receipts and both validated tickets, which show a validation time earlier than the inspection.
Is there anything we can do to appeal the fines? Has anyone dealt with a similar situation with Wiener Linien?
