Having an Xbox is making me care way less about what OS my TV runs

Probably an unpopular take, but I’m starting to think I overthought the smart TV OS thing when I bought mine.

I have a Hisense and most of the time I’m either using the usual streaming apps or jumping straight into Xbox cloud gaming anyway. Between that and the console, I barely spend any time actually browsing around the TV interface.

I totally get why app support matters if the TV is your only device, but once you already have an Xbox / Apple TV / whatever hooked up, does the built-in OS really matter that much?

Feels like picture quality, inputs and how quickly I can get into what I want to watch or play matter more to me now.

Finally finishing our self-built home. Need appliances ideas

We’re finally getting close to finishing our self-built home, and now I’m realizing the hard part is not just building the house. It’s figuring out how to actually furnish it without making expensive mistakes.

The outside is almost done, but the inside is still basically a blank slate. I’m hoping to go with warm wood, neutral colors, simple furniture, and appliances that look decent without being too high-maintenance. Nothing super trendy or luxury, just a home that feels comfortable and practical.

We need to buy almost everything from scratch, so I started making a purchase list. I’m trying to stay in the mid-range for most things, but I’m getting overwhelmed by how many choices there are.

For the fridge, I’m between the LG French Door, Whirlpool Side-by-Side, and GE French Door. I like the look of the LG the most, but Whirlpool seems like the safer “boring but reliable” choice. GE also looks pretty solid, so I’m not sure which one is the best value long term.

For the washer and dryer, I’m looking at the LG 4000 set, Samsung 6300 set, or Maytag 5630 set. I care more about reliability and not having mildew smells than fancy smart features. The LG seems to get recommended a lot, but Maytag has that old-school reliable reputation.

For the living room TV, I was originally looking at the LG C5 because everyone seems to love OLED for movies. The only thing making me hesitate is that our living room gets a lot of daylight, so I’m not sure OLED is the most practical choice for us. I’m starting to think MiniLED might make more sense for a brighter room, so I’ve also been looking at the Hisense U6 Pro. Samsung is on my list too because the brand feels safe, but I haven’t figured out which specific model is the best value yet. Open to recommendations here.

The rest of the list is still pretty basic:

Dishwasher: Bosch 100 Series, LG 4542

Range / microwave: GE 66, Frigidaire 3060, or Whirlpool 320

Sofa: IKEA Kivik, Article Sven, or Costco Thomasville

Small appliances: Ninja air fryer, Breville toaster oven, or KitchenAid mixer

For people who have furnished a new house from almost nothing, what would you buy first? Where would you spend more, and where would you save?

Also, are there any appliance or furniture brands you’d avoid completely?
