Provincial Registration and Licensing
Hello everyone,
I just got my international academic credentials appraised by CASWE and it was determined that I have a SW education equivalent to a Canadian education. I then found out that even with CASWE accreditation, I can not call myself a Social Worker unless I have registered with a provincial SW association or college. In addition to this, almost all professional job offers require that I am a registered SW with a certain province as a prerequisite.
The problem is that I do not currently reside in Canada and I would have liked to first get a job offer and then register with the province in which I would work. Some provinces have more demand for Social Workers than others, but with all jobs requiring that I first register with the provincial body I am ineligible.
I would like to hear your suggestions on how to navigate this. Thanks.
