As an Indian, I feel like racism in America is often dismissed when it happens to us because people assume Indians are “doing fine” financially or academically. But stereotypes still hit hard. We get mocked for our accents, food, skin color, culture, and even basic mannerisms. Online especially, it feels normalized to make Indians the punchline of every hygiene or scam joke, and people act like it’s harmless humor when it clearly isn’t. What frustrates me most is that a lot of this racism is subtle enough that if you call it out, people accuse you of being too sensitive. I still think America offers opportunities and that not everyone is racist, but pretending anti-Indian racism doesn’t exist just makes the problem worse.
