So i was rewatching the ep when Boyd found the talidmans, looking at the symbols on the talismans and i think i figured out why they actually work.
We know the monsters used to be the original people in the town and they made a deal with whatever evil entity lives in the woods. the deal was simple: they sacrifice the kids for immortality.
the symbols on the rocks are old runes. the "X" in the middle is called Gebo and it literally means a "trade" or a "contract." the little stick figures in the center are the children.
heres the reveal: the talismans work because they are the physical receipt of that trade. the monsters literally CANT enter a house with a talisman because it would break their contract.
The children poured all their hope into the trees and these stones when they died. if the monsters enter a room protected by the sacrifice they already used to buy their life, the "universe" or the entity sees it as stealing back the payment.
If they break the seal, the contract is void and they lose their immortality. they dont stay out cuz they are scared of the rock, they stay out because
they dont want to become mortal and die.
The anghkooey" kids are the ones holding the barrier up. every time boyd hangs one up, he's basically reminding the monsters of the kids they murdered to live forever. they hate the talismans because its a constant reminder of their guilt and the "price" they paid.
This explains why they "play house" and talk like humans too. they are stuck in the moment they made the deal.
What do you think?
