New Book from Historian & teacher, Ari Kohen.
Really excited to read this.
His Substack is pretty great too.
Found this beautiful head on Mercari for under $200. It sounds amazing. Looking inside it's probably 71-73, but it's beautiful, looks like it was repaired at some point. The Reverb isn't functional, but besides that it's loud AF.
Old Peavey heads >>> old tube amps
Welp, except my AC30, I've turned 2 tube amps into several Peaveys. I randomly saw a Stereo Chorus 212 at a local Music Go Round. I have a buddy in a Discord group who also is a big Peavey fan and user. I asked him what he thought, and brought home the Stereo. I was hooked. My Stereo pedals sounded better than ever.
So then I took my Fender Hotrod 4 to the music go round, and discovered a Mark 3 Standard head. Traded the Fender for the head, a Vox Cabinet with 15" speaker. Brought that home,,cleaned it out, fixed the reverb tank, and boom, it sounds absolutely amazing.
So yesterday I went to another music store, they had this Bandit 112, I went and tried it out, cause I wanted something easy to gig with. I was impressed. So, I grabbed my Crate Vintage Club 30, and made a trade.
See I've been playing for a long time. It's not that Tube Amps aren't great, they can be awesome. I am just really impressed with the late 70's through early 90's Peaveys.I love the clean, the reverb, and as a pedal platform, holy holy, these all are just phenomenal.
