I keep seeing pitchers pitching well for five or six innings, but at something like two on - two out they'll get subbed off?

I'm a baseball noob but I'd imagine that it must be a bit of a knock to the confidence of the pitcher. Like the coach doesn't trust them any more.

I've heard it's to pad stats but, man, don't these pitchers want to get their team out of that hole?
