Never say never! After almost a decade, I finally got my stolen MP5 back!
My MKE Turkish MP5 clone was stolen almost 10 years ago from a storage unit in a Seattle suburb. It was brand new and had never been fired. I was planning to SBR it before it got taken.
One night, some asshole broke into the facility and hit a bunch of units, including mine. I was keeping it there because I was in the middle of moving.
They eventually caught the guy, but by then he had already sold or ditched my gun. I figured it was gone for good. When the AWB passed later on, I assumed any chance of ever getting it back was dead, even if it turned up.
Then, a few weeks ago (years later) , I got a letter in the mail from my neighboring county’s Sheriff’s Office. They said I could come pick up my firearm. It had been recovered during a big drug bust back in 2022 and held as evidence ever since. Now that the case is closed, they no longer needed it. They looked me up, ran a background check, and sent the letter inviting me to claim it.
I called to schedule an appointment, went in a few days later, and they handed me a big evidence box. I showed my ID, signed the form electronically, and that was it.
I brought the box home, opened it up… and there it was! Pictogram lower and everything. It was scratched up, dirty, and missing the thread protector, but it looks totally functional. I gave it a good cleaning, dug out my pre-ban mags, and damn it feels good to have it back.
Now it’s time to take it to the range and see how it runs! I may still SBR it after all. Never thought I'd get this back!
