(Urgent) I need to set up a new tank to rehome some agressive fish

Hey everyone,

I have a 96L community tank with a Betta, Sterbai Corydoras, Amano Shrimp, Green Neon Tetras, and Kubotai Rasboras. Against my better judgment, I followed my LFS’s advice and added a pair of peacock gudgeons without properly researching them first.

For the first 3 days, everything seemed fine. The Betta would occasionally flare at the gudgeons but mostly left them alone. However, yesterday I noticed fin tearing on my Betta, and he was clearly stressed, hiding and avoiding the male gudgeon, who was actively chasing him away. Since my Betta has diamond eye, I don’t want to keep him with an aggressive fish he can’t defend himself against.

Here’s the dilemma: I don’t want to rehome my Betta (this is his tank), but I’ve also grown attached to the gudgeons and don’t want to get rid of them either. Right now, the gudgeons are isolated in a nursery tank, and I’m looking to set up a new tank just for them.

My questions:

  1. What’s the minimum tank size for a pair of peacock gudgeons? Would a 40L/50L work, or do they need more space?
  2. How much of the high tech set up do I need?
  3. What are the ideal tank mates for peacock gudgeons? I’d love to create a peaceful community around them.
  4. Any tank setup tips (plants, substrate, decor) to make them feel secure and reduce aggression?
  5. Should I consider adding more gudgeons to spread out aggression, or is a pair fine?
  6. Can I added them immediately on a new tank using my other tank's water if I follow some rigorous routine? I've ssen some videos on YT of people adding fish on a fresh set up and was wondering how to do it aswell.

Also, should I be looking for some medicine to help my battle scarred Betta?

Thanks in advance!
