Freezing Line/Should I Replace?
I started my AC for the first time this year and the line froze up after about an hour. I had a guy out and he replaced a capacitor after testing the old one. Then he tested some other things and didn't think that would fix my problem. He thought I was low on refrigerant. It's a 25 year old AC using R22. He was nice and didn't charge me for the capacitor.
A couple days later, I replaced the air filter and tested the AC and the line didn't freeze up. It wasn't a hot day but I ran it a few hours and it was fine.
The guy quoted me a new AC installed for $4500. Which seems like a good price. I'm wondering if the filter made that much of a difference? Or will I still have low refrigerant issues once it gets hot in the summer. Debating if I get a new one right away or if I give the old one a try for now.
Any advice is much appreciated!
