Why are people buying high-spec Mac minis for AI? What am I missing?

I’m genuinely curious about the Mac mini + local AI thing.

When the higher spec minis were selling out, I kept seeing people say AI was part of the reason, especially because of the unified memory.

But what are you actually doing with them? Local LLMs, image or video generation, transcription, coding, automation, file analysis?

I’m a videographer, so the creative side is especially interesting to me.

Basically, am I missing any genuinely useful use cases here? What does your Mac mini let you do locally that you actually use?

Does anyone else use DtG as a form of brainsmaxxing?

I find the whole looksmaxxing thing vaguely disturbing, but I’ve realised I basically do the intellectual equivalent with DtG.

I listen once a week and usually come away feeling slightly more calibrated, slightly more suspicious of confident people, and significantly more likely to notice rhetorical sleight of hand.

Does this count as brainsmaxxing, or have I simply been captured by a rival guru ecosystem?

12-week wait for a Mac Studio in Europe. Anyone else?

Hello everyone! Just wanted to ask a quick question.

I live in Portugal, and on May 14th I ordered a Mac Studio with 64GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD. I was originally told it would take a maximum of eight weeks, but it’s now been almost 12 weeks and still nothing.

I got it at a pretty nice discount, so I’d rather not cancel the order and buy it somewhere else. I’m not worried about getting ripped off or anything like that. I’m just wondering how much longer I should realistically expect to wait.

I know there have been delays with Mac Studio orders, but almost 12 weeks seems a bit excessive. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Does CK consider himself an activist?

Genuine question. Chris criticises Kisin for acting like an activist while avoiding the label. Does Chris apply the same label to himself?

DtG does more than analyse ideas in the abstract. It repeatedly focuses on a particular media ecosystem, warns about its influence, and hopes to shift how audiences view it. That can reasonably be seen as a form of activism, even if it is presented through an academic lens.
