Before this gets started, I have purposely not read too many theories of Twin Peaks, I want to find out what it means for myself. That being said, the theory I have may be a very common and shallow understanding of it, so please correct me if i seem ignorant

One of my favourite things about twin peaks is the connections that each character has to both the main storyline of laura palmers murder, as well as one, maybe more to some external plot which inevitably links to the supernatural side of Twin Peaks. e.g. harry is both working on the case, and has plots with characters such as josie, or leo johnston's several connections on top of (i don't even know how to describe leo's relationship with laura, but you know what I mean)

Except for deputy Hawk. But Hawk is not a random one off character. He is relevant towards the laura palmer storyline but not essential. He has little other plots although his native american-isms are constant. This places him in a very different position in the story to other characters, one only really taken up by two character's - log lady, major briggs and (perhaps) nadine.

We know that the log lady has a strong connection with Hawk, we see that in the return. She only seems to really trust Hawk, and takes up a central role, acting almost as supernatural as the giant is too coop.

Major Briggs and Nadine have less of an instant connection, but since I feel they take up the same kind of space, especially with briggs acting as one of the pioneers of the supernatural in TP, I believe hawk fits in nicely. I reckon hawk is more of a constant symbol of the supernatural, with the native american part allowing him to a sort of guide, subtly leading the characters through.

Thank you for reading this, could be more developed, but it came to me so I felt i should write it down quickly
