Honeymooning through Italy for 2 weeks 🇮🇹 Route feedback, hotel recs, driving tips. Sports car rental? 😈
My wife and I are going to Italy for our honeymoon for about 2 weeks and wanted some feedback on our route/plans from people who’ve done similar trips.
Current itinerary: Travel dates: June 24 – July 7 (approx.)
• Land in Rome, stay 1 night
• Fly to Sardinia next morning and stay at Cala di Volpe for 4 nights
• Fly back to Rome on the 28th and stay there 4 nights (planning to stay in the heart of the city)
• Then rent a car and drive to Tuscany for 3 nights at a spa resort we already booked
• After Tuscany, drive north toward either Bologna or Florence (haven’t decided yet) before eventually ending the trip in Venice
The main goal is basically a northbound Italy road trip ending in Venice. We’re debating whether Bologna/Florence deserves an overnight stay or if it’s better as more of a stop for a few hours on the drive up.
A few questions:
- Thoughts on this route overall? Too much moving around or pretty reasonable?
- Bologna vs Florence for a stopover? We’re huge food people and I keep reading Bologna’s culinary scene is insane.
- Need hotel recommendations for Rome, Bologna/Florence, and Venice. Open to luxury/boutique/romantic honeymoon vibes.
- Any must-do experiences in Rome, Tuscany, Bologna/Florence, or Venice? Hidden gems welcome too.
- Car rental recommendations in Italy? Anything I should know before driving from Tuscany north toward Venice? ZTL zones, tolls, parking headaches, etc?
- Any scams/tourist traps/things to avoid with this route?
Would appreciate any advice, especially from people who’ve done Tuscany → Venice road trips before. Thanks!
