What Stars Do You Wish Appeared More in Technicolor? Which Films from the 1930s-1950s Do You Wish Were Shot Using three strip Technicolor?
Don’t get me wrong, Im a sucker for many monochrome films I feel some of these stars I’m showing should’ve been in more Technicolor films.
Several of these stars were never even seen in three strip Technicolor at all during their careers. There’s two main reasons for this, one being due to the studios not wanting to go over their budget by producing an entire film with the process.
Another reason was that some of these stars retired or passed away before they could make a Technicolor debut.
Some of these iconic performers did have the chance to be filmed in two strip Technicolor such as John Gilbert, Norma Shearer, Jean Harlow, and Clara Bow. Others like Crawford and Hepburn appeared in Technicolor films later on in their careers.
Here’s my list of stars:
1.) Greta Garbo
2.) Bette Davis
3.) Jean Harlow
4.) Clara Bow
5.) Norma Shearer
6.) Joan Crawford
7.) John Gilbert
8.) Humphrey Bogart
9.) Cary Grant
10.) Katharine Hepburn
11.) Esther Ralston
12.) Nina Mae McKinney
13.) Mae West
14.) Joan Blondell
15.) Lupe Vélez
16.) Dolores del Río
17.) Myrna Loy
18.) Claudette Colbert
19.) Carole Landis
20.) Jean Arthur
I will also include the films of each of these stars that were filmed in monochrome but would’ve been dazzling in Technicolor in my opinion. You will see silent film stars on this list but the list is specifically focusing on talkies.
Note, I do know it would’ve been impossible for some of these films to be shot in Technicolor because they pre-date the use of three strip Technicolor but I still think they would’ve looked amazing in it nonetheless.
