Question: Discussing applying for internal roles with my Manager?
Hey folks.
I recently started a 3 month admin type contract role in a major firm. During interview, the hiring manager made it clear that they are not sure if they will have work for me once the 3 months are over.
I am 3 weeks in and finally got permissions and access to the tool I will be working on.
The internal career hub has posted a role that is in another team but much more closely inclined with my work experience and career plans (though I am slightly underqualified).
I am wondering if I should apply for this role.
Ideally, I would like to discuss this with my manager but I am worried that if I apply, my manager will mentally write me off for any possible future work.
Also, I feel like it is too soon to have the convo about if they see me being employed long term in the team as I have only done 2-3 hours of work I was actually hired to do (I have been helping out with other tasks in the meantime, not sitting idle).
What should I do? I like the team, I like being employed and being able to pay the bills so I am more than grateful for this role. And I would like to continue working here. The role I would be applying for is a bit of a long shot but it is also more closely aligned with my background.
Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated.
Apologies, if this is all over the place and not properly structured. I am mentally exhausted.
