How did you “honor” the senior chapter of your dog’s life?

I have a lab turning 12 shortly. He’s in good health and still has plenty of pep (especially if food is around) but I do see the signs of him really slowing down.

I am in a position of life where my remote work is stable, I’m single with no kids and a safe home life, I have minimal other responsibilities, and really want to dedicate this chapter of my life to honoring his final years. I adopted him from a shelter at 1 year old.

I walk him as much as I can. On days where his energy is lower we just sit in the sun and watch birds. He gets tasty healthy snacks. He travels with me whenever possible and gets to see as much as the world as I do.

I’m curious how others intentionally approached this chapter. Anticipatory grief is real and I’m trying to find the right balance of being honest about this phase but giving him the best life I possibly can.
