Should I be worried by a little bit of weight loss?
I found this kitten on the side of a highway on Monday of this week and have been fostering him since. I’ve fostered many kittens before, so I’ve been working to transition him to eating kitten gruel (made of a mix of Tiki Cat Baby Thrive and KMR 2nd Step Weaning formula) from a small saucer. So far, he’s been doing well and gaining a little weight every day, and he received a clean bill of health from our vet on Wednesday. However, I noticed today that for the first time in the week we’ve had him, he didn’t eat as much per meal as he has been, and his weight dropped 10 g from where it was 24 hours ago. He’s otherwise perky, playful, and very energetic, and seems to feel fine, but since he’s so little (roughly 4 weeks old), I still get anxious seeing any weight decrease. Am I overthinking this and being too nervous?
In case helpful, I’m feeding him roughly every 6 hours (6 am, noon, 6 PM, and midnight), keeping him in a safe playpen with a heating pad, and he’s using the litter box on his own and otherwise acting normally. Any tips (or reassurance to put my mind at ease) are much appreciated!
