I've been a mod for about 4 years now. I spend a lot of time managing the sub, responding to mod-mails, and trying to be supportive of the members. Generally, things go pretty well but there are times when I get harassed. Told to kill myself, that they are going to come kill me, that they will rip my breasts and genitals off, and rape me. I get told I am I am a fascist and all of that nonsense. Normally, this doesn't really bother me. But...

We have a member that has a pretty good following on various forms of social media and took to it to complain about the sub. Created some art about it. Spreading some misinformation about flairs and the rules, and now we are getting nasty modmails and comments on the sub. It is really hard to hear that someone choose to host a multi-thousand person conversation about how much mods sucks. It hurts that they chose to use their art to terrorize you.

The worst part for me is that this person did break a rule after we warned them not to.. They were given warnings and then eventually banned. No one from our mod team was rude, no one was singled out, but now there are social media posts about our mod team and their followers are harassing us now.

I loved being a mod. I loved building a community, I loved personally supporting people, and I loved making clear rules. But, most people don't read the rules, make a post that gets removed, then throws a huge shitfit that spreads from one sub to another. I have to protect my peace now, but its sad that a routine removal for self-advertising has lead to being blasted on social media and reddit.

I will miss being a mod, but I won't miss being told to kill myself or being threatened with doxxing.
