What was the scope of this breach?
Does anyone know roughly how many people were affected?
I wiped my entire media PC (4 HDDs) because of this. I noticed the problem today when I looked at my notifications center and saw a notification about Windows Defender being disabled on Tuesday (May 5th 2026), which is when I downloaded JDownloader2. At first I thought that maybe I did something by accident with the command line that caused this but after doing research I saw this was a legitimate exploit.
Fortunately I can redownload all of my stuff pretty quickly once Jdownloader gets back up and is actually a safe download, but I did have an external hard drive that I was unable to wipe using the windows media install disk, so unless I can somehow confirm that this RAT didn't infect it or if I can get a linux install on an old laptop to scan it, I will likely just stop using it entirely and buy a new one.
