Overused music cliche: “We’re too lazy to write a bridge for our song so let’s just transpose the chorus an octave lower”
Heard three songs at CVS that all make use of this trope. Why is it so prevalent? What or who popularized it?

What exactly gives a show tune that special spark that elevates it from being just a simple, ordinary song? Is it the instrumentation, the vocals? Is it the fact that it's from a musical itself but can also exist outside the vacuum of musical theater? What gives it that sound that lets you know it's a show tune?
MSC Cruises are back with their fuckass spokespeople Drew Barrymore and Orlando Bloom. Seeing that stupid boat fills me with so much rage and the rising urge to shove those two rich pretentious dipshits over the railing of said stupid boat. These commercials have completely ruined the word “holiday” for me.
Has anyone noticed that most of the drugs advertised on TV all have similar names?
Think about it and you’ll realize that they mostly have three-syllable names with extra stress on the second syllable. O-ZEM-pic. Sky-RIZ-i. Trem-FY-a. Kinda weird in my opinion.
Of course I know there’s some exceptions to the rule but it was something that I thought was worth sharing here.
Let's just say my brain is still broken from that mangled abomination of the English language.
I'm thinking about coming up with concepts for a graphic novel based on Ragtime. It's mostly a retelling of E.L. Doctorow's original novel, but I do intend on including a few references to the musical, perhaps extra lines of dialogue from the libretto since there isn't that much dialogue in the book. Any suggestions on what else I should put in?
Every show has that one song (or two) that’s bound to be featured heavily in the marketing (advertisements, TV appearances, etc.), certain to stick in your head after hearing it several times. Examples I can name off the top of my head:
- Tribulation/Corn Puddin’ (Schmigadoon!)
- Wheels of a Dream/Prologue: Ragtime (Ragtime)
- The Time Warp/Sweet Transvestite (The Rocky Horror Show)
- Defying Gravity (Wicked)
Any other examples?
