Under a Bridge Club

I just switched back to a geared drivetrain (Deore XT) after being setup single speed for the past 2.5 yrs. I think a dynamo wheelset is going to be the final thing I do to this bike, pretty happy with the current setup, might do a frame bag too.

Possible move to Catonsville, whats the day-to-day like?

Hello! My wife and I (both early 40s) currently live in College Park but plan on moving closer to the Baltimore area in the next few months. Catonsville is one of the spots we're looking into as a possible location. I grew up in Columbia during the 90s and early 2000s, I know of Catonsville but never spent too much time there. I wanted to get some feedback to see if it would be a good fit for us. 2 of our biggest 'must-haves' are;

  1. A walkable and bike-friendly area. We like to have the ability to walk to restaurants, cafe, convenience stores etc. We don't want to be fully car-dependent. I bike daily and College Park has miles and miles or bike and walking paths. Does Catonsville have something similar?

  2. A diverse and inclusive community.

Some other general questions I have;

What is the cost of living like? I feel like I see alot of people on Reddit complaining about BGE. We currently have Pepco and the prices haven't changed much since we've been in College Park (9 years)

  • Has the cost of living changed much recently?
  • What monthly expenses surprised you?
  • Is housing worth the price?
  • Are groceries, utilities, and insurance reasonable?

Is the area generally safe?

  • Do you feel safe walking around during the day? At night?
  • Are there any areas to avoid?
  • Have you noticed crime increasing or decreasing?

We are currently looking at the area right around the Frederick Rd strip, generally from Rolling Rd to Symington Ave or so. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Bridge Club to Straggler

Is the Straggler (new version) a fun bike to ride? I've kinda grown tired of my BC and looking for something a bit more 'sporty'. I wanted to see if anyone else has made the switch and what their impressions are. The review on BikePacking.com of the new frame has really got me wanting one in the 1x setup. I'm going to reach out to the LBS and see if they got a 54 or 56cm instock and give it a test ride.

Any input would be awesome!

I'm planning on posting the BC up for sale in the next day or so just to see if there is any interest of Marketplace.

I messed up, looking for a PN

These little clips are on the backside of the drive-side side mirror. I need replacements. I’m looking for a PN or find a generic replacement for AutoZone or something. TIA

Edit; Both AutoZone and NAPA only that the types that 'curl' inwards. Those don't seem to fit the mirror. These connectors are flat. 22-18 gauge seems the right size though. Anyone know where I can find these?

Side mirror glass removal

Anyone with experience removing the side mirror glass? I ordered one of the blind-spot mirrors and am having a hard time removing the existing mirror for the ‘mount’. I’ve seen instructions on removing 2 clips towards the bottom but the existing mirror has a thick rubber ‘rim’ so it’s almost impossible to see beyond that. Any tips would be awesome.

Kona Woo or Salsa HeyDay! Cues

New to fatbikes and looking for opinions on these 2 models. Any other models I should consider? Ideally looking in the sub-$2k price point.

I’m 5’11” with about 30” inseam. I ride Medium sized Surly models. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Freedom Off-road UCA users, get in here…

How has your experience been with Freedom Off-road UCAs? I’m looking for a budget UCA and these seem to be pretty popular. Whats the maintenance, if any, been like? I’d be using these with a set of 5100/FJ springs set to the second/.85” setting, so I’m thinking it will net around 1.75” - 2” of lift, mainly street use truck. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Surly Bridge Pub

I sold my Steamroller a few years ago and bought this originally thinking I wanted to get more into bike-packing. That never materialized so I’ve been building this mainly as my urban grocery, beer-run cruising pub bike. I’ve made some upgrades over the years and am now gathering pieces for a dedicated single speed wheelset. I’m looking for recommendations for 27.5 rims with a 35-40mm internal width and something like a 22mm + profile height.
