I'm looking to buy a new laptop, what should I look into to make a better decision ?
my current computer is very slow and getting old, it recently had issues with not being able to charge anymore, and I'm also thinking of switching to linux
sorry, I don't know that much about computers so I'm not even sure where I should start looking and what I need to learn, I'm mostly just looking for a computer that has a good battery life and that's going to survive for a long time
- Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: France, up to 500€ I guess but I can probably go higher if there's something better
- Are you open to refurbs/used? sure, so long as it doesn't break
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? build quality first (I assume that's what's going to define how long the computer will work and whether it'll be repairable ?), then battery life, performance is nice but not 100% necessary, assuming form factor is stuff like size and weight and looks, I don't really care
- How important is weight and thinness to you? not at all
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A I don't know enough to have a preferrence
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. at most I might use freecad or edrawings to look at pieces I've made at work, but usually that gets done on a desktop computer
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? stuff like minecraft/vintage story (lightly modded), paradox games, or barotrauma, always the lowest graphics settings and I'm used to about 20fps, anything better than that would be great
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? so long as it works and doesn't break after a few years, it's fine, maybe have a port for ethernet, usb, if possible hdmi too
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. also idk if I have to specify but I'd rather use an azerty keyboard
