Hi everyone!

I just wanted to put a little PSA out there about Colposcopy’s/Cervical Biopsy’s especially if you’ve never had one!

I just went for my first one this Wednesday. I was scheduled for a colposcopy and wasn’t prepared for them to take a biopsy. No one gave me a heads up how painful it is or that I should take meds beforehand. I’ve had an IUD insertion before and the pain was a similar feeling to that. Not quite as bad but definitely very painful.

They also gave me no instruction on recovery, but upon looking it up, for the pinch biopsy, don’t wear tampons, don’t lift over 10lbs, no spicy time, no baths/hottubs for at least a week after. Be very careful because risk of infection can be very serious!! I was on my period at the time so I was using tampons after. BIG MISTAKE.

Last night I woke up with the worst cramping pain I have ever experienced. Radiating to my back and down my legs. I woke myself up because I was saying ow ow ow in my sleep. I think it was because my tampon was pressing on the wound site. I removed it and took a Tylenol and started to feel better.

I live in Canada and I’ve found the care you receive for medical procedures is very poor. But regardless of where you live, just remember women’s health issues are not often taken seriously, and the myth that the cervix has no nerve endings is still prominent in many hospitals. So please ladies ADVOCATE FOR YOUR HEALTH!! Ask the questions you need to, don’t be afraid to inconvenience the doctors, get the information you need to take care of yourself because no one will do it for you.

So I just wanted to put this post out there to hopefully save some women the pain or shock I went through and prepare others for what to expect. 🫶🏼
