Hello,
Any law enforcement or hr people can help me answer this. I’m in my mid 30s now and wanting to change careers I’ve always wanted to be cop but I was young and dumb as I was going through the hiring process with a metro police dept and after doing initial testing I got in trouble with a DUI. It was over 10 years ago and got a dui in New Jersey. I now live in Florida and have maybe 1-2 small traffic violations since then nothing crazy. The dui in New Jersey is technically a traffic violation not a misdemeanor.
My question is if I’m applying to be a cadet down here in Florida I have been getting turned down before they run the background check and I’m thinking it’s bc of my DUI that I’m disclosing. But with it being over 10 years and also being told by some Hr people now that Florida background checks wouldn’t even see that. Is that true? Or do I keep applying with truthful answers?
Thanks
