I’ve been on the ropes of not paying bills for about 2 years and just got a pre-legal part for a credit card that was 8k, but the collection company expects 12k. In combination, I have collections for 6k originally from Sallie Mae student loans, 14k to credit card companies, and 4k for breaking a lease because I couldn’t afford the rent. I live in my parents basement and just own cloths, my car, and a computer. Is now the time to consider filing bankruptcy? I make roughly 1300 a month and my car payment is 288. If I make base payments for all of these collections, I’d have to pay for more than 8 years and would have only enough money for food and emergencies. My dad has Parkinson’s and if he dies, I’m not sure what my housing situation would end up being. Any advice on if I should file or not? Will it haunt me for 10 years? Are these debts ones that would be discharged through chapter 7?
