Hi fellow redditors!

I want to put my players on their toes in upcoming sessions. They’re level 12 and pretty powerful, and they’ve managed to anger some kings and noblemen during their travels. So I started thinking—what if they encounter an organized, well-trained squad of mages sent after them?

I don’t want to just insta-kill them with six Fireballs, so I was hoping experienced players and DMs could suggest some effective tactics or “meta” strategies a group of 5–6 mages might use.

What kind of spell combinations would you recommend?
