Newbie feeling overwhelmed
I’m sure this has been talked about already so I’m sorry to beat a dead horse. What did you all do to stop yourself from feeling overwhelmed? I’ve only ever went fishing for catfish. Just cast out and leave it sit. So I’ve never been the best fisherman to begin with. I’ve caught one native brookie by pure dumb luck on my fly rod and that feeling has me hooked. I have a 5/6 wt 8 foot Martin rod. Cheap one from walmart. Im trying to just be a basic fly fisher with mainly streamers some dries and possibly nymphing but it all seems so out of reach at the moment. Some days I feel like I’ve gotten the hang of casting and others I feel like I’d be better off leaving the rod at the creek side. Sometimes my rod action feels like it lags behind on my cast and then other times it feels like it’s too fast. I have no clue what action it is or what action would work best for me. Then put into the above equation just knowing where fish are and where they tend to stay just seems like it is impossible to ever get the hang of it. Please if anyone has some advice it would be greatly appreciated!
