I Can Afford to Hire 1 Person for My SaaS, Would You Choose Growth or Sales?
Hello all, I’m building Guardian Gaze, an AI WordPress security plugin that can spot bad WordPress code even when hackers disguise it to look safe and normal, and with tons of other features.
The technical side is going well. The MVP works, detection is solid.
But here’s the problem:
I’m a technical/product guy. I can improve the plugin every day, but I can’t seem to grow it.
Right now it feels stuck at zero. No real traction, no predictable user acquisition, and I’m realizing I probably can’t keep trying to do product + marketing + sales + support all alone.
I can afford to hire one person.
And I’m stuck between two choices:
- Hire a growth marketer who can help with content, distribution, SEO, partnerships, funnels, etc.
- Hire someone focused purely on SaaS sales/outreach who can actively bring users and customers.
If you were in my place, what would you do?
For context:
- The plugin targets WordPress website owners/agencies
- The AI angle gets attention, but attention alone isn’t converting
- I don’t mind continuing to handle product/engineering myself
- I just need momentum
I’d really appreciate honest advice from people who’ve been through this stage.
Did growth or sales make the bigger difference for your SaaS early on?
