Big4 Audit to FP&A

I'm an Assistant Manager in Big4 audit and looking to move to FP&A/ Finance Business Partner. I spoke to some recruiters recently and they said it'd be better to be a Finance Manager in the industry for 1-2 years before moving to FP&A. Has anyone made the move before and how have you found it? What are the key skills that interviewers look for and what software should I learn to prepare for the move?

Thank you and have a good weekend!
