Hey everyone! Looking for some guidance on running a wired Ethernet connection to my bedroom.
Here’s my situation:
• Router is downstairs on the opposite side of the house
• My room is directly upstairs
• I game and work from home, so WiFi dropouts are really frustrating
I’m comfortable doing some DIY but I’ve never run cable through walls before. A few questions:
1. What’s the best route to run the cable — through interior walls, up through the floor, or along baseboards with cable raceways?
2. Should I hire someone or is this a realistic DIY job for a first-timer?
3. Are there good alternatives if running cable through walls turns out to be too difficult (MoCA adapters, powerline, etc.)?
4. What cable should I buy — Cat6 or Cat6a? Does it matter for a single room run?
House is a standard two-story, built in the 1990s if that matters. Any advice appreciated!
