I am about to graduate with my BS in CSD, and plan to work as an SLP-Assistant for a year before grad school. I have a question about the requirements to work as an SLP-A (in NC or VA).
I've done enough research to know that to receive a license to practice as an SLP-A under direct supervision, you have to first get 100 hours of clinical fieldwork (As well as completing the ASHA courses on ethics, etc), supposedly which can be obtained on the job. This confuses me because how can I obtain those initial 100 hours on the job without being licensed to practice? It feels like a catch 22, I need the experience to be licensed but I have to be licensed to work.
