My first NAS for playing 4K Bluray Rips on my TV and quitting subscriptions - issues with choosing the correct devices.
Hi,
so for the past year i have been thinking about setting up a home NAS to watch media on my LG OLED TV, for 2 reasons mainly.
- Streaming sites video playback quality is often bad
- Its very expensive in the long term and i only watch handful of movies/shows on there|
- I have a collection of BluRay movies that i would RIP and store on there for easy access.
- Very often the movies i want to watch are just not on ANY streaming sites anymore, and i dont have a dedicated bluray player (neither do i want one) to play it on my TV
So i thought to myself - i should maybe set up a NAS - the thing is, i know nothing about the devices themselves.
2 years ago i set up a PLEX server on my m1 macbook air, and a high bitrate 4k bluray video stuttered heavily when played on my TV so i am a little lost when it comes to the neccesary computing power needed to play high bitrate media flawlessely.
Only a maximum of 2 devices at once would use the NAS, but 99% of the time it would only be one.
Any ideas? Suggestions? I have researched it for some time now but considering how expensive it could be for me i dont want to bite the bullet on the wrong purchase for my use case.
Thanks in advance for all your responses!
