How unsafe is this deck?
Apologize if I don’t use correct terminology! This deck attaches to our living room and is about 8’ off the ground.
We moved into a rental townhome unit in January, and immediately noticed the cosmetic and deterioration issues on the planks. But once winter passed, we look at the structure of the deck after noticing it feels wobbly and also looks like it’s sagging visually.
My biggest concern is that almost all of the joists are not fully touching the exterior beam, almost every single joist bracket either is missing nails, or the nails that are there aren’t pounded through entirely, and there is a lot of rot happening on the planks and maybe the joists as well.
There’s some side to side wiggle I notice if I walk from one end to another while I’m watering my plants and there’s a subtle bounce if I’m stationary and my dog or partner is walking on the deck.
Is this structurally safe to be on at all? It’s now summer here and us and our dog normally spend a few hours a day on the patio, but I’m really worried about it.
