Hi everyone,
I am a Humanities PhD student and will soon be attending (and presenting at) my 2nd ever conference. It is in a very pretty, touristic area of a country I'd really love to visit.
I will be in the country for 7 days, the conference is scheduled on 4 days. There is no attending advisor/supervisor watching over me and this conference is non-essential to my studies. However, I think a bit of networking and a paper presentation would be good experience for me. I am also obviously really keen to explore the area.
For those with a bit more conference experience than me:
Would you recommend staying in accomodation very close to the conference centre, where it is quieter, or in a neighbouring city that will offer me the chance to sightsee but I will need to commute in on conference days? (This would likely be by taxi)
Do you typically stay for the entirety of the conferences you attend? I am thinking of attending for one full day and one or two partial days, as these are the days on which the papers most pertaining to my subject will be presented. However I suppose I feel a bit guilty about signing up but not fully attending - not sure how normal this is?
