Collections: What Am I Doing Wrong?

I've been trying to set up a bunch of collections on Koreader, and it was working until it wasn't? I made a bunch of collections but ended up having to move a bunch of book files around so now they're empty. No problem, I'll just re-add the books to them. I add them, they show in the collection, the next time I open Koreader it's empty again.

I try linking the book folder to the collection because that sounds ideal. It links, the books appear, excellent. Then they disappear again.

I try making a brand new collection and add all the books from the folders I want in there. They show up exactly as I want. Then the entire collection disappears again, not even an empty folder for it.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I don't know if there's a way to save or sync my settings, but this makes no sense. My only plugins are the app store, Simple UI, and Bookshelves (but I'm not using the Bookshelves collection section to create new collections or add books).

Edit to Add: I tried deleting my collections and they just came back! What the hell is going on?? 🤦🏻‍♀️😅 my Koreader is haunted!

Koreader Freezing/Crashing on Launch (Android)

I'm running Android Koreader on a Bigme B6 and it was working ok but the last couple of days it's started freezing when I launch it - stuck on a bright white screen - and continually sends me pop ups asking if I want to wait longer or close it down.

I've not installed any new plugins or anything, the only change is I've finished moving my ebook library onto the device. It's about 6k books and they're all in one folder because of the way Koreader handles folders and libraries. My thought is maybe it's just too many books, and it might be causing it to slow down or overwhelming it too much to run. That or perhaps Koreader just doesn't work on this device, but I did have it working a couple of days ago so I don't think that's the answer.

Does anyone have experience of this or any suggestions? Would breaking down my book collection into folders help or not? Thank you.

Libraries & Inconsistent Tags

Sorry, another newbie question. I've got Koreader up and running on a Bigme B6 and I've been transferring my 5-6k book library across, but I'm trying to understand how my library and tags have imported.

Basically, all my books are in Koreader, all of them are set up in Calibre with tags/collections using the same method, but only a tiny amount have pulled through with those tags into Koreader.

For example: I have about 2500 fanfics tagged "(AO3 Fics)". They're all in Koreader, I can see the files themselves.

But my (AO3 Fics) tag only shows 20 books with that tag. I don't know why it's worked for those twenty and no others? They're all set up the same way.

I've tried running the "extract and cache book information" option, I even told it to overwrite it's previous cache, and the result? It says I have zero books. I'm literally looking at the books in Koreader and it's like "no books were found" 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't know what's happening. I don't know if it's slowly trying to process everything in the background and I just need to leave it alone to sort itself out, or if there's something I can do to get it to re-scan my book folder and find the information?

Issues Communicating with Devices?

I recently bought a Bigme B6 and I tried to add my (admittedly large) Calibre libraries to it - one of them transferred with no problem but ever since Calibre has had an error every time I've tried to connect the device to it again to try and transfer the rest.

It recognises both the device and the micro SD card, but it spends a ridiculously long time trying to get a list of books on the device. Sometimes it shows progress on the job bar, sometimes it doesn't. It's taken three+ hours to do this, gotten to 99%, and then said there was an error communicating with the device. I've been trying to get it to work for three days now and Calibre still can't finish getting a list of books on my device.

I don't know if this is a known issue at the moment that I haven't seen mentioned, or if it's a problem with Bigme devices in general? I updated my Calibre software (Windows) in case that was the issue, but no. I admit I have about 5000 books, split between a couple of libraries (fan fics and published books) but it never had this problem when I was using Calibre and the same libraries with a Kobo Libra Colour.

Any ideas?

How To Install App Store?

I'm trying to get Koreader setup on a Bigme B6 - I've got Koreader itself installed but I can't figure out how to get the app store plugin installed. I've tried looking at the Git Hub page but I don't understand it - there's so much jargon on there I'm not sure which bit is actually the install guide.

I downloaded the zip and extracted it into the Plugins folder on my device, but Koreader doesn't seem to recognise it? I tried forcing it to open the install file but it said it couldn't do anything with it. Do I need to try and figure out this PAT stuff, I thought it was optional?

I feel like I must be a complete idiot because I can't seem to find anyone else who's made or needed a guide to it, but I just don't know what I should be doing. I've never tried installing any plugins before.

ETA: I'm already a Kobo user, but a lot of authors seems to be Kindle exclusive these days. My question is more about what are the options for managing that going forward.

A bunch of Kindles will be unsupported soon, with the Kindle for PC app soon to follow (I've seen both end of May and end of June as potential dates) - what options do we have left? 😕

I have a jailbroken Paperwhite but I've not been able to get the firmware to roll back - is that the next avenue we should be looking at, or will that be futile as going online to download new Kindle books will cause it to update again?

I'm so tired of platform exclusive ebooks 😩
