Best long weekend trip from Oxford by public transport? (23–25 May, group incl. teenager)
Hi all — looking for ideas/opinions for a long weekend trip (23–25 May) from Oxford using only public transport.
We’re a group of 3 adults + one 15-year-old, and we’re trying to keep it fairly relaxed rather than cramming too much in.
Current ideas are:
- Cambridge (possibly 1–2 nights)
- Weymouth / Dorset coast
- A Cotswolds minibus day tour from somewhere nearby
- Or splitting it into two places (e.g. one city + one coastal/rural stop)
Main things we’re looking for:
- Easy enough by train/bus from Oxford
- Walkable once there
- Good food/cafes
- Nice atmosphere for a teenager as well (not too slow/history-only)
- Scenic / interesting without needing a car
Would love recommendations on:
- Which of these is most worth it over a bank holiday weekend
- Whether splitting locations is a good idea or just stressful
- Hidden gems we may not have considered
- Good bases for day trips using public transport
Open to completely different suggestions too if there’s somewhere better for late May.
Thanks!
