Pregnant, working full time, and considering LPN am I making the right choice?
Hi everyone. I posted a while ago that I’m considering doing LPN.
I currently work in dentistry making $28 an hour with my health insurance paid every month. $28 is probably the highest I will get due to DA’s just not being paid well.
I have a ton of prerequisites done and was deciding between RN/Radiology/Dental hygiene.
My only issue with my credits is that I took A&p 1 twice and withdrew it, passed my third time with a C. It is the only class on my transcript that I repeated and have a C with.
Everyone told me prior to lean for RN since I have most of my classes done….
Recently I found out I’m pregnant with my first. I truly am leaning towards doing LPN first due to more flexibility in schedule then dental / more pay then I make right now and also due to the fact I can’t imagine taking off 2 whole years of work and affording a new born baby + my bills just on my significant others pay for any healthcare program at the moment. I also know being not married I should qualify for the program to mostly be paid for.
My significant other finishes school in September, he will be in the aviation field and unfortunately this career you often have to be willing to move a lot until you can get into a major airline. Another worry of mine is that I can’t risk being in a program for 2 years and us potentially being separated for a year while he pursues an airline in another state. I figured a one year LPN will also be quick and I can go with him with our child if that is the case. I read about obtaining the compact LPN license and thought this would be a great option does anyone know is it hard to get how do you go about doing that?
My main questions are how much do you make as an LPN? Do you find that the pay is sustainable for you and your family? How was the program for you? Do you think this is a reasonable plan? What did you wish you knew about becoming an LPN prior to doing the program.
Any advice is appreciated. I am in PA if that helps !
