Hostinger renewal rant and is IONOS an alternative?
Hostinger India provides a huge first year discount and like many others, I fell for it! The pricing was attractive and India location was a bonus.
Skip forward to today, I have the plan renewing in August at over 4X the price. Since it’s a hobby project, I am okay with completely leaving hostinger, get my domain from cloudflare and a different VPS. But goddamn the asia market and IONOS reviews!
I’m currently looking for minimum 2c,4GB,60GB NVMe, seeing pricing in Asia I’m actually ready to go for Europe! The EIG(Europe India Gateway) link actually got a decent upgrade and I see low enough latency and low jitter to EU. I eventually ended up torn between:
IONOS M+ (36euro: insane value, EPYC milan, double the cores and storage but REALLY REALLY HORRIBLE REVIEWS)
Hostup XS: (38euro, EPYC milan, less cores/storage to IONOS, sweden does not sit on EIG so kinda worried about latency and network consistency)
bigRock: (~43euro, EPYC unknown, same setup as hostup but more NVMe storage, INDIA location is the only plus, the OS variants are ancient Ubuntu 22 and no debian option!)
Serverhost: (33euro, exact specs I require but on an old intel E5, dublin location)
I am willing to spend upto 50$ and don’t mind annual signups. IONOS(.de not .com) would’ve been perfect if it wasn’t for horrible reviews.
