he knew he could be good at it, too, he just didnt want to be. he liked musical theatre, the circus, theatre in general: any performance that was "extra," he enjoyed. he loved broadway and hoped to star in a production some day. as he got older, he got more into the risque aspects of these art forms, and spent a lot of time in cabarets and enjoying the burlesque, much to the further dismay of his parents. all of these elements were found to some extent within Circus Baby's Pizza World btw...

the final nail in the coffin for his cutting them off came in the form of his wife, Carrie, who was a poor black woman he claimed to love. and his parents were not happy about it. that, on top of his father succumbing to his illness which was part of the reason he and his siblings were abused in the first place, Bill had enough and left New York entirely alongside Carrie, who wanted to move back to Minnesota anyway.

Bill loveeeeddd pissing off his parents and being rebellious, he loved being in control of his own life, but when his own children acted similarly, he felt betrayed and helpless. which is why he tried controlling them in the same way his own parents did to him... just in a less "i hate your queerness and will force it out of you" way, and more of a "i hate how you act so i will form you into a functional member of my household" via manipulation . ya
