Children's story involving Troy, war

I remember reading a children's book with illustrations that had a young girl and her little brother hiding during an invasion. I think they hid in a hay pile and used animal dung for warmth.

I remember that Troy was mentioned because I found it interesting as a young child since there was a boy in my class with that name. I don't know if Troy was attacking or if the characters were in Troy.

The book was available in the elementary school library during the time frame of about 1970 to 1975.

TIL that the 98-mile U.S. Route 57 (US 57) in Texas begins at the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass and seamlessly connects to Mexican Federal Highway 57 (Carretera Federal 57) across the border. They are the same continuous international corridor.
