First-time apartment renters, Canada/US — what do you need to buy when moving? (18+)

Survey about how first-time apartment renters decide what to buy when moving.

This anonymous survey is about experiences with buying items for a first apartment, including what people bought, what they found difficult to decide, and what resources they used.

Participants should be:

  • 18 years or older
  • Living in Canada or the United States
  • Currently preparing for their first apartment OR have moved into their first apartment recently

What did you regret buying—or wish you had bought—when moving into your apartment?

I’m curious about how people decided what to buy when moving into an apartment.

A lot of apartment checklists list hundreds of items, but they don’t always explain what you actually need before moving, what can wait until after you live there for a while, or what you may never need.

For people who have already moved in:

  • What did you buy that you later realized you didn’t need?
  • What important item did you forget or wish you had bought earlier?
  • What was the hardest part about deciding what to buy first?

I’d be interested in hearing what you learned from the experience.
