Let's talk Africa: I'm looking into Rwanda, Namibia and South Africa in August. But I'm up for suggestions! Who's been there?
Hey r/digitalnomad I'm a digital marketer, traveling mostly in Asia (love it), but it's been 3 years non stop. So I figured why not give Africa a shot? It feels like it's time!
Did a bit of reading, and Rwanda (Kigali), Namibia (WIndhoek) and South Africa (Cape Town) look promising.
South Africa was the one that has been recommended to me the most - but I'm slightly hesitant about because of the safety concerns. Especially self driving? I dont feel like watching my back 24/7. Anyway my friends love it.
A DN friend who visited Rwanda said the traveler scene felt thin and it was hard to meet people. But then again, I read it's super neat and the "Singapore of Africa" there (at least Claude calls it that?).
Namibia feels like the most unique pick, because I think it's a real adventure. People in this sub said "it feels like you're being abducted by aliens any minute", because it's so remote? That's why it's the most tempting one for me, honestly. Would be a huge contrast to say Chiang Mai or Koh Phangan, where you'll usually find me.
Requirements are pretty DN-standard: fast hotel/Airbnb internet, gym access, self-driving option would be sweet but optional. Meeting other travelers would be great. But if I know I'm there for a month by myself, who cares!
