Need help guiding players to a specific location.
For context, i have a 6 group of players, and they are after a number of magical artifacts. The next one they are after is in the possesion of an incredibly powerful cult leader who has made his dwelling aka cult gathering place into a whole city, sorrounded by a pretty big wall (Not AOT big but like one and a half buildings tall). The city has several districts, each with it's own lore, like the hyades, that is very forest-y and mainly populated by elfs.
The city has a 3 day event every year called "The Festival". It's basically the hunger games.
Everyone who isn't chosen to be a contestant is led out of the walls to the "Outer city", where they get temporary housing until the 3 days pass or until the games are done.
The festival itself is pretty simple. A bunch of people are chosen to "Prove their fate" and "Earn their reward". The reward is just getting into the "Elite" aka the cult leaders private circle. The rules of the game are that multiple people can win but not too many. Like a group of 20 can't just all win, but like a group of 6 could. The second main rule, is that every midnight of each day some event happens to speed up the killings. The first one was that every contestant had a light appear above their heads, signaling to evry other player where they are.
The issue i have, is that i left off last session with them just being in one of the districts, of course with the idea of having to fight their way trough.
I want them to go to the heart of the city, where the "Citadel" is, aka the castle the cult leader lives in, and for them to try and spy from outside, since wrote a VERY important conversation between the leader and another NPC. But i have no idea how to get them there. I was thinking about utilizing the even aspect of it, but i just have no idea how to make it work.
